Scientists from UTHealth John Ritter Research Program identify a new gene that causes aortic disease

Scientists at the UTHealth John Ritter Research Program recently showed that alterations in the LTBP3 gene lead to aortic disease. In their paper, published in the April 2018 issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics, they describe how genes that are highly expressed in the aorta were examined to find rare variants using state of the art sequencing technology. They found that aortic disease was seen when both copies of LTBP3 contained alterations.
